What Is The Centerpiece Of Your Worship Service?

When I’m choosing songs and planning a worship service I can get overwhelmed.  With so many types of songs, so many theological themes, there are so many directions I could go.  What is the priority?

Songs of Praise to God?

Songs of Personal Confession?

Songs of Personal Commitment?

Songs of Testimony?

Songs Exalting Jesus?

Songs Inviting The Spirit?

Songs of Prayer for Revival?

Songs Describing the Gospel?

The Priority is Jesus.  Each of these types of songs have their place.  We need to ask for the filling of God’s Spirit.  We need to recall the good news of the Gospel.  We need to declare our personal commitment.

When it comes down to it, everything takes a back seat to simply exalting Jesus.

I love the book of Colossians because the Apostle Paul makes this exceedingly clear.  With relentless repetition and beautiful language the message is simple.  CHRIST OVER ALL.

I had the opportunity to teach recently at my home church, Calvary Monterey.  I taught from Colossians 1 describing how Jesus is all powerful over creation and the centerpiece of reconciliation.

Jesus Christ: The Image of God (v.15)

Jesus Christ: The Firstborn of All Creation (v.15)

Jesus Christ: The Creator of All Things (v.16-17)

Jesus Christ: The Head of The Church (v.18)

Jesus Christ: The Firstborn From The Dead (V.18)

Jesus Christ: The Fullness of God (V.19)

Jesus Christ: The Reconciler of All Things (V.20)

I encourage you to give it a listen and be reminded.  It’s all about Jesus.
